Quarantine Birthday Guide

How to Make Your Child’s Birthday special While Social Distancing:

When quarantine started, I only thought it was going to be a few weeks, but here we are a few months in and approaching my little guy’s 3rd birthday! The thought of him celebrating his special day without any friends or family made my heart sad, but I was determined to make sure he did not miss out on anything! From a jammed-packed schedule to special dragon-shaped pancakes, here is your step by step guide to a special, all frills, quarantined birthday that will have their sibling(s) begging to be in quarantine for their birthday, too!

Quarantine Birthday Party Guide:

1.       Make a time frame of when to plan your party (yes! You still need to plan the party!) We opted to make a loose schedule from morning until bedtime. Having a plan will ensure to make the day super special and filled with lots of fun activities.

2.       Make a list of everything your child absolutely loves to do, but you may not necessarily always have the energy to support i.e. mud pit, board games, superhero battles, pillow fight etc.

3.       Ask your child to plan their birthday menu! Let them decide all their favorite meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including snacks!

4.       Ask them to dream up their ideal birthday cake, from flavor, color, and toppings.

5.       Inform friends and family how they can participate to make their day special! My son is not a huge fan of zoom calls, but his preschool teacher had the class sing to him, and then we had family join us for birthday cake singing after dinner. This was just the right amount of digital celebration to make him feel special while keeping his interest.

3-Year-Old Quarantined Birthday Party Schedule:

7:00 am Dragon Pancakes topped with chocolate and ice cream (this was all my husband!) He made a few large pancakes dyed green to cut and shape into the dragon body and wings. Then he made a few smaller pancakes dyed orange to cut into the fire. He used melted chocolate as an outline and details for the whole dragon and then finally topped it off with a scoop of ice cream. Of course, we added a birthday candle and sang to him.

11:00 am We had body paint on the list, but he asked to play more video games, so we let him!

11:30 am Lunch from In N Out (his choice).

1:00 pm Real Life Candyland in the backyard! Ok, so Candyland is his favorite board game, so I decided to turn our backyard into a real live Candyland Board game. I used the board game as a guide and followed the exact number of colored squares from construction paper and recreated the zig-zagging shape in our yard, set with a cookie land, gummy bear land, chocolate land, and for the finale, ice cream land! I secured the paper pieces with pipe cleaners. This worked but did not seem like the most effective way by any manner! The kids were besides themselves and had a blast eating their way through the game. They begged to play again, and again…we capped it at 2 times!

2:30 pm VR Goggle Disneyland rides! There are a lot of options to choose from! If you do not have VR goggles, just simply do a Youtube search of “Disneyland rides” or” VR rides.” The kids had a blast watching them. We went the extra mile by having the kids sit on a rocking chair and we moved the chair throughout the video!

3:30 pm Treasure hunt presents: Instead of just opening his presents, we decided to set it up into a hide n seek/adventure game. There were clues that we walked the birthday boy through for him to find his presents. We did this with a few of them and then decided to do the other half of the presents through superhero battles!

4:00 Superhero Battles! My husband raided our Halloween box and dressed up in various Monsters while the birthday boy and his sister dressed up in heroes. They had to battle the monster in order to win the rest of the birthday gifts.
